1 Peter : A letter to a suffering church. Have you ever wondered why Peter’s betrayal of Jesus was spelled out in such detail – in all 4 gospels, whereas none of the other disciples’ betrayals were. They all deserted Jesus (except the women) – but no details were recorded – just Peter’s. We study how this provided hope to the churches under great persecution.

Many of us struggle with forgiveness. Perhaps we have been hurt and the person who has caused that hurt has no intention of repenting. When we recite the Lord’s prayer, we ask for forgiveness to the extent with which we forgive others. It is therefore important for us to develop forgiveness of anybody who has wronged us. Not forgiving and harbouring hatred can grow like a cancer inside us. We use the example of Ahithophel here to illustrate this –
